My name is Melissa Ebong. I'm a Christian, wife, mom of three sons and a realtor. I started this blog because I want to help other wives and moms and future wives and moms navigate the sometimes delightful, exciting and murky waters of marriage and motherhood. I also longed for a community where I can give and receive ideas and encouragement plus Godly advice on family and relationships. My role as mom and wife are the most important roles I'll ever have. I want to be the best at these that I can be with God's help and guidance. I also want to share the highs and lows with other parents who may be going through the same things or will be in the future. So... what else is there to know? I'm originally from St. Louis, Missouri. I moved to New Orleans in 1999 to attend Xavier University of Louisiana and received a degree in Psychology with an English minor. I love New Orleans and stayed there an additional two years to pursue a Master's degree in Counseling. Hurricane Katrina ran me out of New Orleans in 2005 and I lived in Houston for a few years where I graduated my counseling program and worked with children and families in counseling and social services. Many of the children I counseled were evacuees from New Orleans and unfortunately, spent time in the Superdome during the aftermath. They experienced some awful things. That experience really transformed me and gave me even more compassion for children and families. I moved to DC in 2008 and attained a Master's degree in Secondary English Education. I taught 7th grade Language Arts for a decade. I also love to travel, eat and write. I'm a skincare junkie who drinks a green smoothie every more and I live to spend time with the people I love.

How to Forge Your New Identity after Baby

"Motherhood"

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” -Osho I recently discovered this quote and it couldn’t be more true. Becoming a mother transformed me like nothing ever has before. After giving birth for the first time almost five years ago, I just knew I would…

"Motherhood"

I’m writing this post while holding my beautiful new baby in my lap and praying that it helps just one mama. I wish that when I was experiencing this pain for the first time that I would have had someone…

Dealing with Rejection while Waiting to meet your Spouse

"Relationships"

Ladies, imagine you’re dating a guy who has 95% of the traits on the “my future husband” list you made when you were 20 and have been revising ever since. You have good chemistry, every date feels like it’s the best one yet and you’re relishing every moment with him. Maybe you’ve even taken it back to middle school and you may or may not have…

THE SECRET OF PUTTING MOMMY AND DADDY FIRST

"Date Day, Date Night, Parenting"

When we had our firstborn, our marriage changed. In many way it changed for the better and in other ways, not so much. We obviously had less time for each other and our intimacy waned. We felt exhausted and had less patience with each other at times so arguments were more frequent. The great thing is that all things work together for our good and it…

BARCELONA AND PARIS ANNIVERSARY TRIP!

"Date Day, Date Night, Parenting"

Night One We arrived in Barcelona in the morning and already it’s time for a nap! Who else stays up ALL night packing the night before your trip, no matter how long you’ve known you were taking your trip?! It’s insane. Our overnight flight was smooth and although Iso slept on the flight, I wasn’t able to. Maybe I was too excited or maybe it was…

KAARA’S BIRTH STORY

"Parenting"

The day before Kaara was born, I decided I needed to go to Ikea with my mom for some last minute shopping and fun. For us, Ikea may as well be an amusement park without the scary and nauseating rides. We ate in the cafeteria and walked around for hours on end (literally). We chatted about life and babies as we picked up a mattress protector,…

SO YOU WANT TWO KIDS UNDER TWO?

"Parenting"

What It’s Really Like When we brought our newborn home and our oldest son met him, it was the cutest scene. Since that day, it has been so much fun watching our son go from ignoring him the first couple of weeks, to bonding with him and now wanting to sit right next to him when he watches Sesame Street. I look forward to them being…
